MSHA Inspection 101

Participation in an MSHA inspection and investigation activities is your opportunity to make your mine safer and to minimize your violation and assessment history. We will discuss the significant benefits of MSHA mandated inspections, empowerment of your workforce and pre-shift examination of work areas and equipment. We will discuss evaluation of potential violations during the inspection and gathering mitigating information to support your company’s position. And we will end with discuss on effectively addressing mitigation of violations during the inspection; in the closeout conference; during a requested Health and safety Conference; and through violation litigation.

Dan Haupt Currently, Dan Haupt serves the mining industry as a Safety and Health Consultant through his company. Dan provides Specialized training such as Conferencing and Litigating MSHA violation. Additionally, he assists mine operators and contractors with Safety and Health Mock Inspections, Consultation, and providing conferencing and litigation services. Dan retired from the Mine Safety and Health Administration in 2013 after 32 years of service as a Mine Inspector, Electrical Inspector, Field Office Supervisor, Education and Training Specialist, Special Investigator, Supervisor Special Investigator, Conference Litigation Specialist, and Supervisor of the South Central District Conference Litigation Unit.
